EVART — Karsten Allen continues to play a key role on both sides of the line for the Evart football team this season.

The Wildcat junior is a middle linebacker and right offensive guard. He starts both ways for Evart and is also a placekicker.

This is his second varsity season.

Last season, “was pretty up and down,” Allen said. “We didn’t get off to a real great start. We kicked it in gear at the end.”

This season, the Wildcats are 4-3.

“We’ve improved greatly,” Allen said. “Our defense is better. We’re stronger, faster and smarter.”

Allen said he, personally, “has improved quite a bit. I didn’t start last year on defense, and I’m smarter player and quicker.”

On offense, “I’m strong, I’m fast,” he said. “I’m good at making quick decisions.”

On defense, “I’m pretty good at stopping the inside trap,” Allen added.

He’s also been kicking off for Evart. Allen usually kicks it to the other team’s 25.

“We usually try to kick it as deep as we can,” he said. “I’m average. I work on my mental approach.”

Allen said teamwork will be the key for his team in its next two games at Holton on Friday and home vs. Baldwin on Oct. 21.
