LEROY – Five Pine River volleyball players have received all-league honors from the Highland Conference including four on the first team and one on the honorable mention list.

First-team players were seniors Cayman Gatt, Jamie Justin and Christie Nelson and sophomore Kassy Nelson. Junior Elizabeth Whitley was on the honorable mention list.

Gatt ended the season with 295 kills, 76 aces and 491 digs.

“Her strength was her ability to put the ball down,” Dennis said. “She was a smart hitter and knew where to place her hits. She was on the team that went to the final four (in 2010).”

Justin had 262 kills, 82 blocks and 65 aces.

“Jamie’s strength was her ability to see the floor well and having confidence in herself,” Dennis said.

Christie Nelson had 480 digs and 43 aces.

She played back row and only had 35 bad serve receive errors.

“Christie was one of the quickest girls on the team,” Dennis said. “She was always positive and always an encouragement. Kassy Nelson had 74 aces, 187 kills and 478 digs.

“Her strength was her adaptability,” Dennis said. “She was able to play in any situation.”

Whitley was credited with 123 aces, 149 kills, 622 assists and 289 digs.

“Her strength was knowing where the hitters wanted the ball and being able to put the ball in their hands,” Dennis said. “She was always encouraging everyone on the team.”

“Those five pretty much played every single game all year,” Dennis said.
