Reed City defeats Morley Stanwood in Tom Ryan consolation game

BIG RAPIDS – It came down to the wire with Traverse City Central sneaking out a 1-0 win over Big Rapids in the championship game of the Tom Ryan Tournament.

Reed City lost 2-1 to TC Central in the other semifinal. Noah Morgan went five innings and had five strikeouts. Treyvor Conklin, Reed Hammond and Logan Cutler had one hit apiece.

In the 17-8 win over MS for Reed City in the consolation game, Xavier Allen got the win in 4.2 innings, striking out eight. Max Hammond had four hits, four runs scored and two RBIs; Allen had four hits with two runs scored and five RBIs; Isaiah Moore had two hits; Isaac Williams had four hits with two runs scored an RBI; and Canyon Reed had two hits and an RBI.  

“I thought today was great,” Reed City coach Eric Grannis said. “We competed with TC Central. Noah threw fantastic. It was the best outing he’s had.

“In game two, we started off slow, started chipping away and started hitting the ball all over the place.”

In the setback to Reed City, Moore had two hits and three RBIs. Groendyke had two hits. Devin Garbow took the pitching loss. The Mohawks led 8-4 but Reed City got nine runs in the fifth and four in the sixth.
