Reed City Police Report

7/18/16 – 7/24/16

  • Officers continue to perform property inspections and serve the appropriate abatement paperwork for those in violation of the Reed City Ordinances for tall grass, trash and vehicles though out the week.

7/18

  • Officers were dispatched to the Parole Offices to take a 22 year old male into custody. He was then transported and lodged in the Osceola County Jail with out incident.  
  • Officers were dispatched to local apartment complex regarding a suspicious person hanging around the property.  The Officers spoke with the 17 year old male, who stated he was waiting for a ride.

7/19

  • Officers found a bicycle outside a local business.  Please call the Reed City Police station to identify if you are missing one.
  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding a 17 year old male who was in violation of his parole.  He had an outstanding warrant out of another jurisdiction with an original charge of armed robbery and was thought to be a flight risk.  The young man attempted to flee the residence when he became aware of the Officers presence.  Once apprehended, he was placed under arrest, transported and lodged in the Osceola County Jail to await pickup from Kent County Sheriffs Department in the morning.  
  • While performing a traffic stop, Officer issued a citation to a 39 year old male driver for expired registration and two misdemeanor charges for no vehicle insurance and no operator’s license. His vehicle was towed and Officers submitted a warrant request to the Prosecuting Attorneys office.  

7/20

  • Officers were dispatched to check on a female subject who had called and sounded confused.  The Officers located the 21 year old female and learned she had recently been released from the Osceola County Jail.  She stated she was trying to locate her vehicle, which had been towed the night before.  Officers assisted with locating her vehicle.  
  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding a fraud complaint.  The 27 year old male stated a local business had over charged his debit card.  Officers spoke with the business manager where the receipt showed what they charged on his debt is what was agreed on.  It is believed the bank charged the extra $2.50 due to his card as a fee, since it had been declined the first few times it was run through.  
  • Officers were dispatched to local residence to take a report regarding an internet fraud complaint. The caller complained that she sold an item on Craig’s List and never received the money.  She stated she contacted PayPal after finding the money did not show up in her PayPal account.  PayPal told her the email address she received was fraudulent.   The items were shipped to an address in Toledo Ohio.  The matter is under investigation.
  • Officers were dispatched to the Reed City campus Spectrum Health Hospital regarding an upset male that was demanding information on his ex-girlfriend who was receiving treatment.  The hospital staff asked that he be escorted off the property.  Officers spoke with the 29 year old male and explained to him the HIPA laws prohibited the release of information.   At that point he was asked to leave and warned that if he returned he would be arrested for trespassing.  The man stated he understood and left without incident.   

7/21

  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding a disorderly conduct situation between neighbors.  There had been an exchange of words between the two neighbors after one owners dog went in the others yard.  The dog owner was asked to leave the property and he refused. After the complainant declined to seek charges, officers escorted the man off the property and issued a verbal warning.
  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding a larceny complaint.  The caller complained that his girlfriend stole money and other items from him while he was in jail.  He added that he believed she had left town.  The matter is under investigation.
  • Officers were dispatched to local apartment to perform a well being check regarding a verbal domestic situation.  Both parties admitted to have been arguing but there had been no physical abuse.  Officer issued a verbal warning for noise and advised any further occurrences would result in an appearance citation being issued.

7/22

  • Officers were dispatched to local gas-station regarding a juvenile hanging round after midnight.  Officers questioned the 11 year old boy who said he had run away.  The boy was issued a verbal warning regarding the city curfew and transported home where Officers spoke to his mother, who thought he was in bed sleeping.  
  • Officers were dispatched to the Reed City campus Spectrum Health hospital to assist with a mental health patient who wanted to leave.   Officers explained to him why he needed to stay, and he agreed to stay and get the evaluation that was needed before he could leave.  
  • Officers were dispatched regarding a female stumbling into traffic while attempting to hitchhike.  Officers found the 22 year old female highly intoxicated.  She informed the officers that she was in violation of her probation for consuming alcohol.  She was arrested for probation violation and possession of heroin and transported to the Osceola County Jail.  
  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding a 911 for a family dispute. Officers spoke to the family members and issued a verbal warning for their behavior.
  • Officers received a referral from CPS in reference to inappropriate contact between two juveniles. The matter is under investigation.
  • Officers performed a traffic stop after observing a motorcycle without a tail light.  Officers found the 30 year old male driver was in violation of his temporary motorcycle instruction permit (TIP) restrictions. He was issued a citation with a misdemeanor charge for riding at night and without another cycle endorsed driver.

7/23

  • Officers issued an appearance ticket to a 24 year old male for driving without insurance and improper use of a registration plate.  He was also issued a civil infraction charge of failing to display a valid plate and his vehicle towed.  
  • Officers were called to assist a handicapped individual with the removal of a bat from the residence.
  • Officers were flagged down at the local motel to take a minor vehicle accident report.  
  • Officers were requested to perform a welfare check on a local resident.  The caller was concerned as his friend had been drinking earlier and threatened to hang himself.  Officer found the man to be sober and did not give any intention that he was going to follow through with hurting himself or a danger to others.

7/24

  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding a suspicious situation.  The home owner stated there were noises earlier coming from the woods.  They also stated there had been some teenage boys walking down the road just before they heard the strange sounds.  Officers check the wooded area and surrounding property, finding nothing out of the norm.  
  • Officers were called to assist the Osceola Count Sheriffs Department with locating and arresting a 39 year old male who was trying to elude officers and had a child support warrant.  
  • Officers responded to a 911 hang up call that came from a local business after hours.  After searching and finding nothing unusual Officers cleared.  
  • Officers were dispatched to local residence regarding gun shots fired.  The called stated individuals had been arguing, then he heard 3 gun shots fire and then there was no longer any arguing to be heard.  Officers questioned the individuals who admitted to having a verbal argument but did not hear any gun shots.  Officers were given permission to search the home and found no signs of any firearms or foul play.
