Police Report

Nov. 28 to Dec. 4

Nov. 28: An officer was dispatched to a driving complaint. The officer spoke to the complainant and the suspect. The case has been turned over to the Osceola Prosecuting Attorney for review.

An officer handled two separate larceny from auto complaints where electronic devices were taken from their vehicles. If you have any information in reference to this matter, please contact the Evart Police Department at (231) 734-5911.

While on patrol an officer identified an individual as having an outstanding warrant. The suspect was arrested, transported to Osceola County Sheriff’s Department and lodged on charges.

Nov. 29: An officer was dispatched to a business reference an alarm. The officer searched the building and the surrounding area. The business was found to be secure and the alarm was due to a system malfunction.

An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a noise complaint. Upon arrival the officer identified an individual as having an outstanding warrant. The suspect was arrested, transported to Osceola County Sheriff’s Department and lodged on charges.

Nov. 30: An officer was dispatched to a Malicious Destruction of Property complaint at a business. The officer took pictures of the damaged shed. The case is open pending further investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a barking dog complaint. The officer spoke to the owner and advised them of the City’s Ordinance. The case has been closed.

An officer assisted Evart Fire Department with traffic control during a fire.

Dec. 1: An officer was dispatched to a report of two subjects who were climbing through a window of a residence. The officer made contact with the subjects who were determined to be the tenants.

Dec. 2: An officer was dispatched to a disturbance at a local business involving minors. The case is closed.

An officer was dispatched to a two car accident, there were no injuries.

Dec. 3: An officer was dispatched to a business reference a Fail to Pay for gasoline complaint. The case is open pending further investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a complaint of domestic violence. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department. The case has been turned over to the Osceola County Prosecuting Attorney for charges.

Dec. 4: An officer was dispatched to a business reference a suspicious situation. The officer made contact with two subjects who had been hired to clean the vacant apartment above the business.

An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a complaint of domestic violence. The officer was unable to make contact with the suspect. The case is open pending further investigation.

Nov. 28: Officers handled a civil property dispute between a husband and wife that are filing for divorce. The parties were provided with a course of action.

Officers were called to a residence for a malicious destruction of property complaint. Officers investigated the damage and it was determined to be pre-existing damage. A report was completed and the matter is closed.

Officers were dispatched to a residence for a drug overdose. The subject tried to commit suicide by taking too much insulin. The subject was transported to the hospital by EMS for treatment.

Officers investigated a mail scam complaint where the sender was soliciting money from the complainant. The letter was determined to be a scam and the complainant was provided with a course of action.

Nov. 29: Officers handled a harassment complaint that occurred during the craft show at the Reed City High School on Friday, Nov. 25. A report was completed and the matter is under investigation.

Officers on patrol located four subjects doing door to door sales within the city without the required permit. All four subjects were cited at the scene and released.

Officers were called to a gas station in the city for a gas drive off complaint. The subject was identified and located and it was a misunderstanding with the credit card machine at the pump. The subject returned to the gas station to make payment and the matter is now closed.

Officers on patrol located a subject with an outstanding felony warrant for larceny in a building. The subject was arrested and lodged in the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers assisted the Big Rapids Department of Public Safety in locating a suspect in a gas drive off that occurred in Big Rapids that was believed to now be in the Reed City area. Officers were unable to locate the subject.

Officers took custody of a subject from Lake County Deputies that had arrested a subject with an outstanding Reed City warrant for two counts of retail fraud. The subject was transported and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Nov. 30: Officers responded to the Elementary School for an out of control student. Officers were able to get the student under control and the matter is being handled by school officials.

Officers assisted the Michigan State Police in locating a subject wanted for questioning in a domestic disturbance.

Officers responded to a residence for a call of a suicidal subject. The family members agreed to transport her to a mental facility for treatment.

Officers investigated a retail fraud complaint. It was determined to be a false police report filed by the complainant and the retail fraud never occurred. The matter is being forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office seeking an arrest warrant for filing a false police report.

Dec. 1: Officers on patrol stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the driver was operating on a suspended license. The driver was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers investigated a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the Elementary School that was running. The owner of the vehicle was identified and the matter is closed.

Officers investigated a harassment complaint between two students. The students were talked to and given a warning.

Officers responded to a residence for a suicide attempt. The subject had minor cuts to her wrists and was transported by EMS to the hospital for treatment.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex for an intoxicated person who may have taken too many pills. Officers arrived on scene and the subject was not suicidal and did not take more then the prescribed dosage of her medications. The subject was given a list of resources in the area for alcoholism.

Officers were requested to assist the Michigan State Police with a call of a vehicle on its roof on US 131 near mile marker 167. Officers arrived on scene and found that it was construction equipment that the caller observed.

Dec. 2: Officers were called for a reckless driving complaint at the Middle School. Officers checked the area and were not able to locate the vehicle.

Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and discovered that the driver was operating with no operator’s license and without insurance. The driver was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers served a No Trespass Order to a subject in the city on behalf of one of the businesses in town.

Officers were called for a well being check on an elderly female at a residence in town who got into an argument with her son and was worried that he was going to harm her. Officers checked on the female and provided her with a course of action. No crime took place and the matter is closed.

Dec. 3: Officers were called for a damage to property complaint. The complainant stated that the back window of his van was broken out. The matter was investigated and a report was completed.

Officers responded to an apartment complex for a noise complaint. The subject was given a verbal warning. No noise was heard when the officers arrived on scene.

Dec. 4: Officers were called for an open door at an abandoned residence in the city. Officers checked the property and determined that the wind blew the door open. The residence was secured.

Osceola County

Sheriff’s Report

Nov. 27 to Dec. 2

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office investigated several complaints for the above week. The following is a brief summery for some of that activity which occurred.

Nov. 27: A sergeant was dispatched to a residence within Marion Township on the report of a larceny complaint. Upon arrival the sergeant discovered that a known subject had taken money from the victim’s purse. The sergeant located the suspect, conducted an interview and arrested them for the larceny. The suspect was then transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

A deputy was dispatched to a larceny complaint, which occurred within the City of Evart. Upon arrival the deputy discovered that someone had entered the victim’s car and took some electronic equipment. The deputy completed his investigation and cleared the scene without incident.

Nov. 28: Deputies investigated a juvenile run-away complaint, which occurred within Hersey Township. Upon arrival the deputies discovered that 2 juvenile’s had left their placement home and staff was unable to locate them. The deputies completed their investigation and located said juveniles a short time later within Richmond Township. The juveniles were then transported back to their placement home without incident.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Hersey Township on the report of a possible domestic assault complaint, which was in progress. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene and determined that said incident was a verbal argument. The deputies then cleared the scene once their assistance was no longer needed.

Nov. 29: Deputies were investigating a breaking and entering complaint within Rose Lake Township, when the deputies were approached by 2 subjects in a vehicle who were in need of directions. Through investigation it was discovered that the subjects were transporting a loaded and uncased firearm. The driver of said vehicle was issued a citation for this offence and the firearm was confiscated.

Deputies investigated 2 vehicle crashes which occurred within the City of Evart.

Nov. 30: A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding, which occurred within Leroy Township. Through investigation the deputy discovered that the driver was operating said vehicle on a suspended driver’s license. At that time the driver was taken into custody and was transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

A sergeant picked up a subject on a valid warrant issued out of Osceola County, while they were lodged at the Wexford County Jail. The subject was then transported back to Osceola County without incident.

Dec. 1: Deputies conducted a court ordered transport from Reed City Spectrum Health to a mental hospital in Grand Rapids. The transport was completed without incident.

Dec. 2: A sergeant attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle within Sherman Township for disregarding a stop sign, however the vehicle fled. The sergeant continued to follow the vehicle, and observed said vehicle to pull into a driveway and collide with a parked car. At that time the driver exited and fled on foot. The sergeant pursued and located the driver attempting to hide behind some items behind a garage. The operator was taken into custody and was transported to the Osceola County Jail on numerous charges, which include being in possession of a police scanner while in a vehicle, and possessing a “short barreled” shotgun.

Deputies investigated 4 vehicle crashes, which occurred within Osceola and Richmond Townships and the City of Reed City.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to report any and all suspicious activity that is observed within their neighborhoods, and to contact the sheriff’s office if you have any information pertaining to the above complaints.
