Feb. 28: Officers stopped a vehicle for having an expired license plate. It was discovered that the driver of the vehicle was operating without a license. The driver was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers responded to a residence for a civil matter. The complainant advised that someone had placed dog feces on her front porch. The subject was located and identified and he advised that he was returning the feces that were left on his property by the complainant’s dog. The matter is being reviewed by the City Attorney’s Office.

Feb. 29: Officers investigated a retail fraud complaint that occurred at a gas station in the city. The suspect entered the store and stole an energy drink, then pump gas and drove off. The matter is under investigation.

Officers responded to an apartment complex for a civil dispute over cell phones that were purchased for the children. The ex-husband had proof that he purchased the phones. The ex-wife ended up giving the phones back to the subject and the matter is closed.

Officers met with Deputies from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department that had arrested a subject on an outstanding Reed City warrant for assault. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers assisted EMS on a possible drug overdose at a residence in the city. Upon arrival it was determined that the subject had not overdosed on medication.

Officers responded to a barking dog complaint. Upon arrival no dogs were heard barking. The matter was unfounded.

Officers investigated a complaint of prescription medication being stolen from a vehicle. Through investigation it was determined that the complainant was filing a false police report of a felony and the incident did not occur. The report has been submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office seeking an arrest warrant.

March 1: Officers investigated a traffic complaint from the Crossing Guard that someone had failed to stop. The matter is under investigation.

Officers investigated an assault complaint between two students at the school. A report has been completed and submitted to Probate Court for review.

Officers were called to an apartment complex for a trespassing complaint. A No Trespass Order was served on the subject on behalf of the Manager of the complex.

Officers handled a larceny of a wallet complaint. The complainant was shopping at a business in town and left her wallet in the shopping cart in the parking lot by accident. The complainant returned to find the wallet was gone. The suspect later used a credit card in the wallet at a gas station nearby. Officers are in the process of reviewing video footage to identify the suspect.

March 2: Officers were called to the school for a disorderly student complaint. Officers were able to get the student under control and turned over to his parents.

Officers assisted the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department on a fight at a business just outside of the city. The suspect who assaulted the female was being detained by customers. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail.

March 3: Officers responded to a residence for a child custody dispute. The parties were advised that it was a civil matter and provided with a course of action.

Officers were dispatched to a residence for a well being check. Officers made contact with the parties at the residence. A referral has been submitted to Protective Services.

March 4: Officers handled a lost property complaint. The complainant lost a purse while snowmobiling. A report has been completed.

Officers arrested a subject on a warrant for operating a medical marijuana dispensary within 500 feet of any residential zoning district. The subject was lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Police Report

Feb. 27 to March 4

Feb. 27: An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a suspicious situation. The officer made contact with the home owner and the complaint was determined to be unfounded.

An officer responded to the scene of an injured deer. The officer dispatched the deer and cleared the scene.

Feb. 28: An officer was dispatched to a local business to assist a citizen who reported a domestic altercation. The dispute was verbal in nature and had not resulted in physical contact. The officer assisted the citizen with finding a place to stay with the help from a business.

An officer was dispatched to assist the Department of Human Services on an interview.

Feb. 29: An officer was dispatched to a business reference an alarm. The officer searched the business and the surrounding area. The residence was found to be secure and the alarm was due to a system malfunction.

March 1: An officer was dispatched to a Larceny from an automobile complaint. The case is open pending further investigation.

March 2: An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a harassment complaint. The parties were advised to resolve their differences in a civilized manner.

An officer was dispatched to a Malicious Destruction of Property complaint. Photos were taken of the damaged tires. If anyone has any information concerning these damages, please contact the Evart Police Department.

March 3: An officer was dispatched to a civil dispute. The officer stood by until the parties reached a mutual agreement.

March 4: An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a domestic assault. The officer spoke to the complainant. The suspect was arrested, transported to Osceola County Sheriff’s Department and lodged on charges.

An officer was dispatched to a traffic complaint. The officer made contact with the owners of the vehicles who were issued citations for parking the wrong direction.

Sheriff’s Report

Feb. 26 to March 3

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office investigated several complaints for the above week. The following is a brief summery for some of that activity which occurred.

Feb. 26: Deputies investigated 2 vehicle crashes, and 2 crashes with injuries. Incidents occurred within Richmond, Hartwick, Evart and Sylvan Townships.

Feb. 27: Deputies were dispatched to a business within the City of Evart on the report of a breaking and entering alarm complaint. Upon arrival the deputies checked the business and found everything to be secure. The deputies then cleared the scene once their assistance was no longer needed.

A deputy was dispatched to a business within Highland Township on the report of a suspicious person’s complaint. Upon arrival the deputy patrolled the area and located said persons a short distance from the scene. The deputy checked the subject’s credentials, and determined that their vehicle had run out of gas, and they were walking home. At that time a friend was called to come pick-up the subjects, and the deputy cleared the scene without incident.

Feb. 28: Deputies were dispatched to a business within Richmond Township on the report of a suspicious person complaint. Upon arrival the deputies made contact with said person, who was sleeping in their car, and discovered that said subject was tired and decided to take a break from driving. At that time the deputies checked the subject’s credentials and cleared the scene once their assistance was no longer needed.

Feb. 29: Deputies investigated a domestic assault complaint, which occurred within the City of Reed City. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene, and discovered that an assault did occur between 2 subjects involved in a dating relationship. At that time the aggressor was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Deputies investigated 7 vehicle crashes. Incidents occurred within Highland, Orient, Lincoln, Richmond, Marion and Middle Branch Townships.

March 1: A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle within Marion Township for an equipment violation. Through investigation the deputy discovered that said operator was operating on a suspended license. At that time the operator was issued a misdemeanor citation for this offence, and was released from the scene while his vehicle was turned over to his parents. The deputy then cleared the scene without incident.

A deputy investigated a harassment complaint which is occurring within Evart Township. Upon arrival the deputy discovered that said complainant is receiving several text messages from an unknown subject; however the complaint did not wish any further action, and only wanted this incident documented. The deputy then cleared the scene once his assistance was no longer needed.

March 2: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Rose Lake Township on the report of a domestic assault complaint, which was in progress. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene, determined that an assault did occur, however the aggressor had fled the scene. At that time the deputies completed their investigation, and attempted to locate the aggressor, however they were unsuccessful in their efforts. At that time the deputies cleared the scene, however this report will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for charges.

Deputies were dispatched to Evart Township on the report of a domestic assault complaint. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene and determined that an assault did occur, however the second part to this complaint had left the scene. The deputies completed their investigation and attempted to locate the second party, however they were unsuccessful. The deputies then cleared the scene; however this report will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review of possible charges.

March 3: Deputies investigated 3 vehicle crashes. Incidents occurred within Burdell and Leroy Townships.

Deputies were dispatched to a business within the City of Reed City on the report of an breaking and entering alarm complaint. Upon arrival the deputies checked the scene, and found everything to be secure. The deputies then cleared the scene without incident.
