Feb. 20 to 26

Feb. 20: An officer was dispatched to assist a citizen with a dog at large. The officer was unable to locate the dog.

An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a welfare check. The individual was found to be secure. The case is closed.

Feb. 21: An officer was dispatched to a business reference an alarm. The officer searched the business and the surrounding area. The residence was found to be secure and the alarm was due to a system malfunction.

Feb. 22: An officer was dispatched to a residence reference an open door. The officer searched the residence and the surrounding are. The officer secured the door and contacted the key holder.

An officer was dispatched to assist the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department on a car deer accident, there were no injuries.

Feb. 23: An officer was dispatched to assist the Department on Human Services on a home visit.

Feb. 24: An officer was dispatched to a private property damage accident, there were no injuries.

An officer was dispatched to assist the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department on an assist to a motorist complaint.

Feb. 25: An officer was dispatched to a business reference a suspicious situation. The front gate to the business was open. The building and the surrounding area were found to be secure.

Feb. 20 to 26

Feb. 20: Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the driver was operating on a suspended license. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers assisted EMS at an apartment complex for a report of a male having difficulty breathing.

Feb. 21: Officers arrested a subject on a warrant for larceny. The subject was lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Feb. 22: Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the driver had an outstanding felony warrant out of the Munising Police Department for insufficient funds check.

The driver was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers assisted the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department with the armed robbery that occurred at the Citizens Bank in Leroy.

Officers responded to an apartment complex in the city for a breaking and entering complaint. The resident returned home with her two children to find the male suspect inside her apartment. The suspect had fled the area and was not initially located. On Feb. 24 the subject was located and arrested on a felony warrant for home invasion (a detailed press release is to follow after the suspect is arraigned on the charge in District Court).

Feb. 23: Officers were called to Community Mental Health for a subject that was disorderly. Officers arrived on scene and were able to get the subject calmed down.

Officers investigated a weapons offense involving a High School student who was in possession of a knife. A report is being completed and the matter is under investigation.

Officers responded to a business outside of the city for a hold up alarm. It was determined that the alarm was accidentally activated by a new employee.

Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex for a noise complaint. Officers talked to the parties involved and a verbal warning was given.

Feb. 24: Officers responded to the school for a disorderly student. Officers got the student under control who was turned over to his parents.

Officers arrested a subject at his residence on a four count felony warrant for possession of child pornography. The subject was lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident (a detailed press release is to follow after the suspect is arraigned on the charge in District Court).

Officers responded to a business in the city for a security alarm. Officers arrived on scene and determined that the alarm was false.

Officers were requested by Child Protective Services to assist on a home inspection. Upon entering the home officers detected a strong odor of marijuana. A grow operation was discovered in a locked room of the home and 44 marijuana plants were seized. A report is being submitted to the Prosecutor’s Office seeking an arrest warrant. No further details are available at this time.

Feb. 25: Officers assisted the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department on 9 Mile Rd on a report of a man with a gun call. It was determined that the subjects were hunting. The matter is being investigated by the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers handled a civil property dispute between two parties. Both parties were provided with a course of action as the complaint does not appear to be criminal at this time.

Feb. 26: Officers responded to an apartment complex in the city for a call of a domestic disturbance call. Officers arrived on scene and determined that the female had been assaulted by her boyfriend. The suspect was located a few blocks away and was arrested on aggravated domestic assault and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Sheriff’s Report 

Feb. 19 to 25

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office investigated several complaints for the above week. The following is a brief summery for some of that activity which occurred.

Feb. 19: A deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle within Rose Lake Township for failing to dim its headlights. Through investigation it was determined that the operator was operating said vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was then arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Deputies investigated 3 vehicle crashes, which occurred within Rose Lake, Highland and Richmond Townships.

Feb. 20: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Richmond Township on the report of a domestic assault, which was in progress. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene, and through investigation, determined that an assault had occurred. At that time the aggressor was arrested and transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Burdell Township on the report of a disorderly subject complaint. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene, and discovered that said disorderly subject had several valid warrants issued for their arrest. At that time the subject was taken into custody and was transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Feb. 21: A deputy was dispatched to a business in Lincoln Township on the report of a breaking and entering complaint. Upon arrival the deputy discovered that someone had entered the business and had took a substantial amount of tools. The deputy completed his investigation and cleared the scene once his assistance was no longer needed. This complaint is open pending contact with the suspect(s) in this case.

A sergeant investigated an assault and battery complaint, which occurred within Richmond Township. Through investigation the sergeant discovered that the victim received some unwanted touching from the suspect, while on a motor vehicle, which was in transit. The sergeant completed his investigation and cleared the scene without incident. This case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review of criminal charges.

Feb. 22: Deputies investigated a robbery, which occurred at a bank within the Village of Leroy. Through a joint investigation with the Michigan State Police, the offenders were arrested by 02-24-2012 and are lodged at the Osceola County Jail.

Feb. 23: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Rose Lake Township on the report of a breaking and entering complaint, which was in progress. According to the complaint, a male subject wearing a mask, was seen entering a vacant residence through a back window. The complainant also observed the male subject leaving the residence on foot and attempting to hide in a wooded area. Upon arrival the deputies secured the scene and located the offender. Through further investigation the home owners were contacted, however did not wish to pursue criminal charges, as the offender was an acquaintance of theirs. The deputies then cleared the scene once their assistance was no longer needed.

Deputies investigated 2 vehicle crashes, which occurred within Highland and Hersey Townships.

Feb. 24: Deputies investigated 11 vehicle crashes and 1 vehicle crash involving fatal injuries. Incidents occurred within Lincoln, Richmond, Burdell, Hartwick and Leroy Townships.

Feb. 25: Deputies investigated 2 vehicle crashes, which occurred within Burdell and Rose Lake Townships.

A deputy was dispatched to the lobby of the sheriff’s office as a subject was being disorderly, and was refusing to leave. Upon arrival the deputy spoke with the person in question, and after a short conversation the subject left without incident.
