Police Report

April 25 to May 1

April 25: Several blight violations were observed by the Evart Police Officers. The officers sent out notification letters to the property owners. The property owners / tenants have 10 days to correct the violations to avoid being cited.

While on patrol an officer observed an open door. The officer searched the building, and contacted a key holder to advise them of the open door.

An officer investigated two suspicious person complaints. The officer searched the building and the surrounding area. The officer was unable to locate the suspect.

April 26: An officer was dispatched to a residence for a noise complaint. The officer spoke to the complainant, and advised the suspect of the city’s ordinance.

April 27: An officer investigated a suspicious situation complaint at a residence. The officer searched the building and the surrounding area. The officer was unable to locate the suspect.

An officer took a report of bullying involving juveniles. The case is open pending further investigation.

An officer was dispatched to assist a business on a fraud complaint. The parties reached a mutual agreement requiring no further action.

An officer took an assault complaint involving minors. The case is open pending further investigation.

April 28: An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a larceny. The officer searched the residence and the surrounding area. The case is open pending further investigation.

An officer took a report of an individual suspected of furnishing alcohol to minors. The case is open pending further investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a two car property damage accident. There were no injuries.

April 29: An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a disturbance complaint. The officer spoke to the parties involved who were able to reach a mutual agreement. The case is closed.

An officer was dispatched to a property damage complaint. The suspects were issued citations for unauthorized vehicles on foot trail.

April 30: An officer was dispatched to a traffic complaint. The officer spoke to the complainant, and was unable to locate the suspect.

An officer was dispatched to a residence reference a domestic violence complaint involving minors. The case is open pending further investigation.

May 1: An officer was dispatched to a domestic violence / Malicious Destruction of Property complaint. The officer spoke to the complainants, and was unable to locate the suspect. The case was forwarded to the Prosecuting Attorney’s office for review.

An officer was dispatched to a business regarding an alarm. The business was found to be secure and the alarm was due to system error.

April 25: Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the driver was operating without a license. The driver was cited at the scene and released.

Officers on patrol located a dog running at large. The dog was captured and taken to the Animal Shelter.

Officers on patrol located a subject with an outstanding warrant for Failure to Appear. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers assisted the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department in locating a vehicle that was believed to be at a residence in the city.

April 26: The School Liaison Officer handled a weapons offense. A student was found to have a knife in his vehicle at the High School. The knife was seized and the matter is being handled by School Officials.

Officers from the Reed City Police Department attended fallen Kalamazoo Public Safety Officer Eric Zapata’s funeral. Officer Zapata was killed in the line of duty on April 18.

Officers located a subject with an outstanding warrant for Disorderly Conduct. The subject was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the driver was operating on a suspended license. The driver was arrested and lodged at the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Officers assisted EMS on a medical run at a residence in the city.

April 27: Officers were dispatched to a larceny complaint. The complainant stated that sometime the night before someone who was at her house stole a bottle of prescription drugs. A report was completed and the matter is under investigation.

Officers located a commercial vehicle parked in a residential area. The owner of the vehicle was located and advised to remove it from the residential area.

Officers were dispatched to an area check for two kids swimming in the Hersey River. The kids were located and given a warning.

Officers responded to a suspicious call. The caller stated her motion lights turned on and thought that there was someone outside her house. Officers checked the area and did not find anyone.

Officers were dispatched to a disorderly person complaint. A friend showed up at the complainant’s house and was intoxicated and refusing to leave. The subject left on his own prior to the officers arriving.

April 28: The School Liaison Officer handled a turfing complaint at the High School. The suspect was identified and the matter is being handled by School Officials.

The School Liaison Officer investigated an assault complaint at the Reed City High School. The matter is under investigation.

The School Liaison Officer responded to a harassment complaint at the GT Norman Elementary School. The matter is under investigation.

Officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. It was discovered that the driver was operating on an expired license. The driver was cited at the scene and released.

Officers responded to a domestic disturbance call at a residence in the city. Officers arrived on scene to find that it was a verbal argument only. All parties were warned and provided with a course of action.

April 29: Officers responded to a business in the city for a possible minor in possession of tobacco complaint. The minors were gone when the officer arrived at the scene.

April 30: Officers responded to a harassment complaint. The complainant was receiving harassing phone calls and text messages about dating the suspect’s ex-boyfriend. A report was completed.

Officers were dispatched to a harassment complaint. The complaint was found to not be a police matter. The complainant was provided with a course of action.

May 1: Officers located a vehicle wanted for a gas drive off in Big Rapids. The suspects paid for the gas over the phone and the matter was resolved.

Osceola County

Sheriff’s Report

April 24 to April 30

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office investigated several complaints for the above week. The following is a brief summery for some of that activity which occurred.

April 24: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Lincoln Township on the report of 2 juveniles attempting to break into a shed. Upon arrival the deputies began their investigation and discovered the identity of the juveniles involved in this incident. At that time the deputies made contact with the parents and the juveniles which completed their investigation. The deputies then cleared the scene without incident and forwarded their report to Probate Court for review.

Deputies investigated a 2 vehicle crash which occurred within Richmond Township. Upon arrival the deputies completed their investigation and cited the at-fault driver for causing the accident.

April 25: Deputies investigated 2 vehicle crashes which occurred within Burdell and Leroy Townships.

Deputies investigated a breaking and entering complaint which occurred within Burdell Township. Upon arrival the deputies discovered someone had broken into the complaint’s barn and took a generator. The deputies completed their investigation and cleared the scene without incident. This case is open pending further investigation.

April 26: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Osceola Township on the report of a 911 hang-up complaint. Upon arrival the deputies made contact with the occupants, checked the residence and discovered this incident was caused by problems with the phone line. The deputies then cleared the scene without incident.

A deputy was dispatched to a residence within Burdell Township on the report of a stolen vehicle complaint. Upon arrival the deputy discovered the complainant’s roommate took his vehicle 2 weeks ago, and has not been heard from since. Through investigation the deputy discovered the roommate was arrested 2 weeks ago and was incarcerated in a local jail. The deputy then contacted the complainant and advised him where he could pick his vehicle up.

April 27: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within the Village of Hersey on the report of a breaking and entering complaint. Upon arrival the deputies discovered someone had entered the complainant’s residence and removed two safes, which contained several proof mint coins and rolls of quarters. The deputies completed their investigation and cleared the scene. This case is open pending further investigation and contact with the suspects.

April 27: Deputies responded to a residence within Leroy Township and arrested a subject on a valid felony warrant. The subject was taken into custody and was transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

Deputies were dispatched to a residence within Highland Township on the report of a domestic assault complaint. Upon arrival the deputies discovered that an assault had occurred. Deputies then arrested the aggressor for domestic assault and also arrested a witness in this incident for a valid warrant. Both subjects were then transported to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

April 28: Deputies investigated one-vehicle crash and one-vehicle crash with injuries, which occurred within Richmond and Middle Branch Townships.

April 29: Deputies were dispatched to a residence within the Village of Tustin on the report of a domestic assault. Upon arrival the deputies discovered a subject had assaulted two residents within the house hold. The deputies then placed the aggressor under arrest for this incident and transported them to the Osceola County Jail without incident.

April 30: Deputies investigated 4 vehicle crashes which occurred within Lincoln, Sylvan, Middle Branch and Marion Townships.

The Osceola County Marine Officer assisted the Evart Fire Department and Osceola County Emergency Management Department with several river rescues, which occurred on the Muskegon River.

For the above week the Osceola County Marine Officer taught a boater safety program to students of the Reed City School System. This program was taught without incident.
