EVART\u00a0-\u00a0Roger Jay Hopkins, 54, of Evart, passed away on Thursday July 25, 2013, at his residence. He was born on Sept. 5, 1958, in Stanwood to David Hopkins and Joyce Beemer. He was raised in Evart and was a 1976 graduate of Evart High School. He became a quadriplegic in 1975 as a result of a car accident and lived in the Grand Rapids area for several years while undergoing rehabilitation as a result of his injuries. It was during this time that he met Kimberly Foerch, a nurse's aide, and embarked upon a lifelong loving relationship. In 1983, Roger and Kimberly moved back to Evart where they raised two sons and made their life together until his passing. He was a devoted father and friend who loved watching his boys play sports and enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Foerch, of Evart; sons, Jesse and Jacob Hopkins, both of Evart; brothers, Bob (Laura) Hopkins, of Evart, Tony (Sally) Hopkins, of Marion, Alan (Yvette) Hopkins, of Evart, and Scott Hopkins, of Marion; sister, Jana (Tony) Fenton, of Evart; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Joyce Hopkins; and brothers, Randy and Mark Hopkins. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at the Crossroads Community Church in Evart with Mr. Michael Perry and Mr. Rob Rounds officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be made in his name to either the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Michigan.
