Robert Edward McCarthy Sr., died suddenly Sunday July 15, 2012, in Hartwick Twp., near Evart. He was born May 6, 1955, in Detroit, the son of Kenneth Edward McCarthy Sr. and Shirley (Lucier) McCarthy. Robert worked for General Motors Co. before retiring and making his home in Evart. Wherever Bob went, he made friends. He was known for his love of family, friends and most importantly his grandchildren. He loved fishing with his grandchildren, nephews, and all the young people in his life who wanted learn the art of baiting and casting. Bob loved cooking, and his love for this art led him to own and manage a restaurant in Evart called Sonny\u2019s. Bob is survived by his wife, Susan, four daughters, Stacy (Steve) Dice of Evart, Amy McCarthy of Maryland, Shawn (Joe) Scott of Port Huron and Shelby McCarthy of Evart, two sons, Robert (Cheryl) McCarthy of Mecosta, Joseph (Stephanie) Smith of Taylor, his mother, Shirley McCarthy of Evart, four sisters, Karon McCarthy of Evart, Beatrice Whitehead of Evart, Deborah (Ernest) Neubecker of Sears, Robin (Kevin) Gostlin of Evart, two brothers, Kenneth Jr. (Linda) McCarthy of Livonia, and Brian McCarthy of Evart. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews he helped along life\u2019s path. Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Kenneth Edward McCarthy Sr. Funeral services for Mr. McCarthy are at 4 p.m. on Thursday, July 19 at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart with Father Joe Fix officiating. Visitation will be from noon on Thursday until time of services.
