A 31-year-old Gaylord man has been taken into custody for throwing a large rock from a moving vehicle and injuring a young girl, Michigan State Police reported. Brandon Clifton was arraigned in Otsego County for one count of assault with a dangerous weapon, one count of malicious destruction of personal property over $1,000 but less than $20,000 and littering in the path of a vehicle, according to MSP in a recent press release. At 7:26 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, troopers for the MSP Gaylord Post responded to an alleged assault on McCoy Road in Evergreen Township, according to MSP. Clifton reportedly saw his ex-girlfriend in a truck with her new boyfriend and threw a rock at them. But the rock bounced off and ricocheted through the windshield of a passing minivan, injuring a 7-year-old girl. The driver of the truck told MSP that he, his girlfriend and her two children were traveling on Plywood Road when they saw Clifton driving a Jeep in the opposite direction. Clifton saw them, slammed on his brakes, spun around and followed them. While on McCoy Road, Clifton reportedly passed them and suddenly spiked his brakes. They saw Clifton grab a large rock from his Jeep and he threw it in the path of their truck. The rock ricocheted off the truck and went through the windshield of a Dodge Caravan that was traveling in the opposite direction. A seven-year-old girl in the back seat of the Caravan sustained minor injuries due to flying glass.\u00a0 Clifton is being lodged in the Otsego County Jail. His bond was set at $2,000 cash surety.
