HERSEY\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Joyce Haist, 89, formerly of Hersey, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born on Aug. 11, 1926, in Lansing, to Lewis and Gladys (Petrie) Johnson, and attended school in Barryton.\u00a0Joyce married Glenn Haist on April 17, 1946. He preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 2004. She was a resident of the Hersey area for more than 50 years and had been a member of Farm Bureau and treasurer of the former Hersey E.U.B. Church. She had attended the Reed City Church of the Nazarene and enjoyed cooking, baking, cake decorating and home decorating. Joyce is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Jeff) Grose, of Traverse City; her son, Jake (Doreen) Haist, of Ann Arbor; two grandchildren, Ellie and Jake Haist; two step-grandchildren, Amy (Christian) Brown and Kelley (Steve) Stewart; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dena Taylor, of Grand Rapids, Bernice Strong, of Vacaville, Calif., Audrey (Stan) Raymond, of Belding, and Grace Starr, of Ionia; and sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson. Joyce was preceded in death by one sister, Violet Walker; and one brother, Leland Johnson. Funeral services took place on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2015, at the Reed City Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Chris DeMott officiating. Burial was in Hersey Village Cemetery.
