CHARLOTTE\u00a0\u2014\u00a0Joan \u201cJo\u201d Arvilla (Wyman) Adleman, 85, of Charlotte, formerly of Reed City, died on Thursday, April 7,\u00a02016. Jo was born on June 5, 1930, in Midland, the daughter of Dewey and Ida Rose Ella (Oliver) Wyman.\u00a0She worked for more than 20 years in parks and recreation as director of senior citizen activities. She first served\u00a0the City of Lansing, and later, retired from the City of Fraser. As a young woman from Reed City, Joan\u00a0was a very active softball enthusiast. She started her career as early as 9 years old when she played on an upper school (college) softball team. Joan was accepted to play for the Grand Rapids Chicks, which was a\u00a0women\u2019s baseball league during World War II, but wasn\u2019t able to continue due to family obligations. She became a\u00a0fast pitch pitcher in the Central Michigan fast pitch softball league for women and played for the Lansing Bud\u00a0Kouts team which later was known as the Lansing Laurels. In her retirement, she stayed very active, organizing senior citizen trips throughout the country and on\u00a0Mackinac Island, served as a youth camp director for many years at VFW Camp Trotter and worked within\u00a0the Hart School system. In her later years, she devoted much of her time to volunteering, especially for the\u00a0Eaton Area Senior Center in Charlotte. She was a member of the VFW Women\u2019s Auxiliary Post No. 5602 in\u00a0Six Lakes. Joan is survived by two daughters, Sheila (James) Burgie, of Charlotte, and Sharon (Michael) Doherty, of\u00a0Charlevoix; two sons, Duke (Sandy) Adleman and Darrin (Jeannie) Adleman, both of Grand Ledge; 10\u00a0grandchildren, Brian (Heidi) Sutton, Jason (Angelina) Sutton, Jared (Jenny) Sutton, Michael Doherty, Nicole\u00a0(Jason) Jarad, Amber Laakko, Angie (Pete) Vereecke, Sabrina (Brian) Tome, Jake (Renee) Adleman, and\u00a0Alisha (Phil) Sheets; 10 great-grandchildren; and her constant and loving companion dog, Rodi. She is\u00a0predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Duane Wyman, of Midland, Carl Wyman, of Reed City, and\u00a0Dale Wyman, of Reed City. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Pray Funeral Home in Charlotte, with the Rev.\u00a0Amee Paparella officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2016, and from 1 to 2 p.m.\u00a0on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Pray Funeral Home.
