EVART - Jean A. Duey, 74, of Evart, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2014, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. Jean was born on July 22, 1939, in Howard County, Ind., to Charles and Betty Shaw. She married David A. Duey on Nov. 6, 1956, in Kokomo, Ind. He preceded her in death on July 22, 1991. The Dueys moved to Evart from Indiana in 1973. Jean was an active member of the Evart United Methodist Church and was involved with Higher Ground Ministry. She was a member of the Evart Women's Club and was a City council person for 17 years. Jean was active in Girl Scouts, where she was a coordinator and leader. She was volunteer caretaker for Guyton Park and the Community Garden. Mrs. Duey was the former owner and operator of the Corner Cupboard restaurant in Evart. She is survived by three daughters, Sandra (Terry) Young, of Evart, Patty (Pat) Holihan, of Howell and Alicia (Ben) Theunick, of Evart; a son, Steve (Rita) Duey, of Evart; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Kitty Achors, of Monticello, Ind.; a sister-in-law, Janet Murphey, of California; and a brother-in-law, John (Rose) Duey, of Hawaii. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, David. A memorial service for Jean A. Duey was held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Evart United Methodist Church with Pastor Melodye Surgeon-Rider officiating. A luncheon will take place immediately following. Jean's final resting place will be next to her husband in Plainview Cemetery, Miami County, Ind.
