BIG RAPIDS \u2014\u00a0Ione Frances Grinnell, 92, of Big Rapids, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at Spectrum Health Reed City Rehab and Nursing Center. She was born on July 4, 1923, to Clarence and Hattie (Crane) Hoisington, in Lansing. Ione married Gerald C. Grinnell and together they made their home and raised their family in the Lansing area before moving to Holiday, Fla. Ione has resided between Lansing, Big Rapids and Reed City on and off since 2000. Ione was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, a former member of the Forest Hills East Civic Association and currently enjoyed attending Liberty Baptist Church in Reed City. Ione is survived by one son, Jerry A. (Carolyn) Grinnell, of Dresden, Tenn.; one daughter, Judy Hulliberger, of Reed City; one stepson, Larry Sandmeyer, of Phoenix, Ariz.; one stepdaughter, Jerri Lee (Bill) Sandmeyer-Reid, of Glendale, Ariz.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one on the way. Ione was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John William Hartman, in Vietnam, during the Vietnam War; her husband, Gerald, in 1995; and one brother, Fredrick Hoisington. A memorial service will be held at a later date.\u00a0Memorial contributions may be made in Ione\u2019s name to the Liberty Baptist Church in Reed City.
