REED CITY\u00a0-\u00a0Helen E. Massey, 89, of Reed City, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014, at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital. She was born on Feb. 20, 1925, in Reed City to F. Stanley and Mary C. (Hainbecker) Voelker. She graduated from Reed City High School and attended Central Michigan University and later Michigan State University where she received her bachelor's degree. Helen married Charley Massey on June 18, 1949, in Reed City. He preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2001. She and Charley lived in Flint until moving back to Reed City in 1981. Helen enjoyed painting and playing the piano and organ. Helen is survived by two sons, John Thomas (Carolyn) Massey, of Richland and The Rev. James Stanley (Betty) Massey, of Brightwaters, New South Wales, Australia; six grandchildren, Sarah (Mike) Brisker, Charley R. Massey, Rebecca (Mark) Olsen, Stephen (Margaret) Massey, Aaron and Bethany; five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Melissa, Rosalyn, Vivian and Cadence; and her sister-in-law, Donna Voelker. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Carlton Massey, at age 2; and her brother, John Voelker. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 23, 2014, at Bethel Family Missionary Church, at 515 W. Lincoln Ave., with Pastor Ed Wanner officiating. The burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation was held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at McDowell Funeral Home and on Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to the Missions fund at Bethel Church.
