REED CITY \u2013 Gary Arnold Sweet, 66, of Reed City, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, in Ann Arbor. He was born on July 20, 1946, in Big Rapids, and was a 1964 graduate of Reed City High School. From 1964 to 1967, he served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate aboard the USS Laffey. On Oct. 21, 1967, he was married in Jackson to Linda Sue Simon, who survives. He was the owner and operator of Sweet Tile & Carpet Co. in Paris, where he worked together with his wife, Linda, and his son, David, until his retirement in 2008. An active member in his community, Gary was a member of the Reed City Sportsman\u2019s Club and a longtime volunteer with the Ronald McDonald House charity fundraiser. He enjoyed woodworking and working with horses and cattle in his retirement and spending time with his beautiful grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sweet, of Reed City; son, David, and wife, Michelle Sweet, of Reed City; grandchildren, Darrien and Sarina Sweet, of Reed City; sister, Val and Bud Todd, of Reed City; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marlene and Dale Meade, of Jonesville, Mike and Diane Simon, of Jackson, Bruce and Sandy Simon, of Jackson, Rodney and Ruthie Simon, of Pennsylvania, Roger Simon, of Florida, Debbi and Mike Bretes, of Lansing, and Sue Simon, of Indiana; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews that were so near and dear to their Uncle Gabby\u2019s heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Dorothy Sweet; and daughter, Niki Sweet. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2013, at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City. Burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Paris. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Ronald McDonald House, and envelopes will be available during visitation hours.
