EVART — Wava G. Walters, 89, of Evart, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at her home in Chippewa Twp., surrounded by her family.

Wava was born on June 10, 1924, in Altona to William Henry and Ada Ellen (Frase) Eggert. She moved to the Evart area from Cedar Lake in the 1930s. Wava graduated from Evart High School in 1943. She married Wallace M. Walters in Clarkston on Jan. 4, 1945, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 15, 1991.

She worked at AC Sparkplug in Flint, Evart Products and Wolverine Worldwide in Big Rapids. She was a member of the Big Rapids Eagles Auxiliary, the Emerald Lake Birthday Club and the South Evart Quilting Club. Wava was known as the Yahtzee Queen, and she was a huge Detroit Tigers fan. She was Michigan’s best female fisherman and hunter, enjoyed playing Bingo and sewing quilts.

Wava is survived by two daughters, Cheryl (Don) Tatara, of Evart, and Margie Rae Walters Mitchell, of Berrien Center; two sons, Gary (Sharon) Walters, of Mesa, Ariz., and Randy Walters, of Evart; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Seresta Stuart, of Chicago; and a brother, Ralph Eggert, of Flint.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wallace M. Walters; a sister, Virginia Pearson; and four brothers, Leonard, Howard, Forrest and Sherman Eggert.

A memorial service for Wava G. Walters was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart, with the Rev. Joe Fix officiating. Her final resting place will be Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart.
