It's probably not surprising that there's a national day for just about everything every day of the week.

While some may consider various national days to be a stretch, one that holds water is today's celebration of National Voter Registration Day. It falls every year on the fourth Tuesday of September.

National Voter Registration Day surrounds the encouragement of getting registered to be a voter and participate in any upcoming elections. The mid-terms are just around the corner.

And registration has gotten much easier with digital portals that allow potential new voters to get signed up faster. All the resources can be found on the official National Voter Registration Day website. Visitors to the site can not only register but check their registration status to make sure all is in place for the next election.

According to the National Day Calendar, National Voter Registration Day was established in 2012 by the National Association of Secretaries of State. To mark the day those who aren't registered to vote should take the time to do so, and those who are registered to vote should encourage those who aren't or don't understand the benefits of voting as every vote counts.
