Thomas E. Stafford

ST. MARY'S, Ohio — Thomas E. Stafford, 84, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2014.

He was a resident of the Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Community in St. Mary’s, Ohio, and a former resident of Reed City. He was born on Nov. 1, 1929, in Big Rapids, to Jesse and Margery (Holden) Stafford, and was a graduate of Reed City High School.

Thomas married Elizabeth Youngs (deceased) in October, 1953. He worked for Wolverine Worldwide for more than 20 years and retired from the ANR Pipeline Company in 1994. Tom was a veteran, an avid Michigan sports fan, a card/cribbage player, bowler, hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are two children, Brenda (Bob) Schoenlein, of St. Henry, Ohio, and Jeff Stafford, of Reed City; two grandchildren, Angela (Dennis) Vendl, of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Nicole (Blake) Young, of Wauseon, Ohio; one great-grandchild, Lilly Vendl; one brother, Jay (Carol) Stafford, of Canadian Lakes; sisters-in-law, Mabel (Robert) Scheid, of Big Rapids, and Mary Youngs, of Reed City; brothers-in-law, Clifford (Jackie) Youngs, of Reed City, Lloyd Youngs, of Paris, Bud (Karen) Youngs, of Hawkins, Clarence (Maxine) Youngs, Jr., of Woodville, John Woods and Bill Johnson, of Reed City.

He is preceded in death by a sister; and brother-in-law, Nona (Gilbert) Swiger, of Wyoming; and sisters-in-law, Minnie (Bill) Johnson, and Beulah (John) Woods.

The family will hold a private committal service at the Chase Township Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering is planned at noon for Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Chase Creek Smokehouse Restaurant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Reed City Senior Center.
