International e-learning platform Preply released a report of the most popular Christmas movies in each state. Overall, the most popular movies in the country are "Home Alone" as the most popular followed by "The Grinch (2018)," "Elf," "Edward Scissorhands" and "Happiest Season."
"To help usher in the spirit of the holidays, we wanted to find out which holiday movies are Americans’ favorites," the report from Preply read.
While many states have a single standout movie, Michigan has three movies tied for its most popular. "Elf," "Last Christmas" and "The Christmas Chronicles" are tied for first in the mitten state.
Oddly enough, Michigan-based "The Polar Express" did not make the list, but instead is the standout favorite for almost 10 other states.
More broadly, "Elf" is the number one holiday movie for the Midwest with it being the top movie in five different states in the region. On an international level, "Home Alone" is the top movie for English-speaking countries it reaching number one in Australia, Canada, India, Nigeria, Pakistan and the Philippines.
Preply compiled their report using information from Rotten Tomatoes and Box Office Mojo then compile a list of the most popular and highest-grossing holiday movies of all time. Then, they used that data to analyze search trends for each state, region and country.
