The festivities began with the fourth annual Spirit Competition, featuring the theme “How the Grinch Stole Christmas." Local businesses throughout downtown decorated their storefronts in grinchy décor, in hopes to win Best Overall Lighted Festival Display.
On Friday, the annual Evergreen Festival Craft Show offered the opportunity to shop for unique gift ideas for those hard to buy for friends and family members. The craft show continued through the day Saturday with over 100 vendors offering handmade items including blankets, kitchen essentials, jewelry, food items, wood crafts and much more.
The annual Lighted Evergreen Festival Parade took place Friday evening through downtown Reed City with lighted floats, trucks, Santa and Mrs. Claus in their sled and many other interesting sights. Following the parade, the Christmas tree lighting took place at the Depot and included caroling with Santa and Mrs. Claus, and hot cocoa and cookies.
Santa and Mrs. Claus, with two of their reindeer returned to the Depot on Saturday for the Santa Social which offered the opportunity to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Inside the Depot visitors could enjoy pizza, cookies and hot cocoa while they watched the movie “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
The Evergreen Festival is an annual two-day event sponsored by the Reed City Chamber of Commerce.
