REED CITY — Rauha Rose Hitzemann, 92, of Reed City, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2012.

She was born on June 30, 1919, in Lake City to Frank and Rose (Kaipainen) Rosted. She graduated from Lake City High School in 1938 and from the Teresa Manion Beauty Academy in 1941.

She was employed with Linten’s (Klein’s) Department Store in Big Rapids for many years and later with the Osceola County Commission on Aging after her retirement. Rose was a first generation American Finn who was proud of her heritage and traditions and loved to share them with other Finns. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Reed City, a member of the Scandinavian Society, a member of the Attic Diggers Club and enjoyed association with the Business and Professional Women’s Club. She loved sewing, crocheting and gardening.

She is survived by her daughter, Charlotte (Paul) Phillips of Alabama; son, Donald (Jean) Hitzemann of Big Rapids; daughters-in-law, Claudia (Wayne) of Rhode Island and Cynthia (Brian) of California; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Charlotte (Bob) Fitzgerald; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Rose Rosted, brothers, Frank, Roy, Reino and Ted Rosted; sisters, Thelma (Rosted) Williams and Aileen (Rosted) Davenport; and sons, Mark, Clark, Wayne and Brian Hitzemann.

No services are planned. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
