Pioneer file photoREED CITY — At its monthly board meeting the Reed City Area Public Schools addressed important aspects of planning for the new school year including staffing changes, budgets and curriculum.
The board approved the hiring of Scott Daling in the position of high school special education teacher and Ajene Webley as a middle school math teacher for the 2022-23 school year.
They also accepted the resignations of Rose Bentley, an elementary teacher, and Chad Marshall, technology coordinator.
Superintendent Michael Sweet said the board is optimistic about the staff for the upcoming year.
“Reed City Schools is in very good shape with teachers,” Sweet said. “We have very few open positions, a couple that we're looking for elementary. We're confident we have good staff in place, and that we're ready to go.”
The board additionally approved the 2022-23 community services proposed budget, the food service budget and the activities fund budget. Members also voted to approved the Michigan High School Athletic Association 2022-23 membership resolution.
Sweet said the administration is consistently looking for ways to improve curriculum quality.
“We continue to look at curriculum instruction and high-performing groups,” Sweet said. "We know that we can impact the educational process by being very specific and narrow, and curriculum instruction and high-performing groups is what we're going to focus on and what we have focused on.”
As for infrastructure projects, the administration is planning on completing parking lot improvements and beginning work on a dust removal system.
The board’s next scheduled meeting is set for 7 p.m. July 18.
