R. Dale Williams
HERSEY — R. Dale Williams, 88, of Hersey, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Dale was born on Sept. 21, 1926, in Richmond Township, to John Fred and Ruth (Ulrey) Williams. He graduated from Reed City High School in 1944. Dale was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and attended Western Michigan University after the war. He worked for National Supply for 18 years and then he and his family started D & E Supply in Reed City in 1965. He was a member of the Reed City Rotary Club and a member of Reed City United Methodist Church, where he wore many hats. In his younger years he played independent basketball, baseball and softball. Dale had a passion of gardening, golf and shuffleboard, where he is in the Florida State Hall of Fame.
Dale is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eva M. Williams, of Hersey; a daughter, Marie (Lonnie) Powers, of Saranac; three sons, Geoffrey (Susan) Williams, of Jackson, John (Joan) Williams, of Reed City and Doug (Nancy Stark) Williams, of Reed City; seven grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda) Williams, Thomas Williams, Sarah (Ben) Stark, Jill (Antonio) Correa, Brent (Karen) Williams, Monica (Rich) Fuller and Rachael (Scott) Vernon; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mildred Williams; and his dogs, Tinkerbell and Lady.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and was the last of seven siblings who were Ranald, Richard, Jean, Bonnie, Rex and Joan.
Funeral services for R. Dale Williams are at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at the Reed City United Methodist Church, with Pastor Kathy Caderette officiating. Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2014, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart, and an hour prior to services at the church. Internment will be in the Hersey Village Cemetery.
