Osceola County community events calendar

OSCEOLA COUNTY — The following is a list of community events happening in and around the area. If you have an event you would like posted on the calendar, or if any information is incorrect, contact cathie.crew@pioneergroup.com:

•    Saturdays at the Depot will host ventriloquist Richard Paul at 7 p.m., Aug. 27, at the Reed City Depot, 200 N. Chestnut Ave., Reed City. The event is sponsored by the Osceola County Community Foundation as part of the Summer Fun at the Crossroads program.

•    Sawtooth Wolves MC will host “The Original End of Summer Party” Aug. 25 -28, at 3800 19 Mile Rd., Barryton. Gates open at noon Friday. Cost is $25 single/$40 couple for Thursday-Sunday; $15 single/$25 couple for Saturday only. The event will include games, live music, door prizes, a parade and other activities. •    The annual “Pork for a Purpose” benefit will take place on Saturday, Aug. 27 at the 8700 180th Ave., Stanwood. The event will include auctions, raffles, a cornhole tournament and a roast pig dinner. Proceeds from the event will benefit a local family. •    Barryton Church of God will host a car wash fundraiser and bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Aug. 27, at 20244 30th Ave., Barryton.

•    Chippewa Lake Fireworks Committee will host the “Summer’s Last Cast Firecracker Fishing Contest” from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Aug. 27 at Millett Park, 10500 Dwight St. Entrance fee is $60 per family of 4 or $20 per individual. Awards ceremony and picnic will be at 5 p.m. Trophies awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Kids lucky fishpond is available for 10 and under. •    SAL Morley American Legion will host a Pig Roast and cornhole tournament benefit from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Aug. 28. A Chinese auction will begin at 11 a.m. Cornhole registration begins at 11 a.m., with first toss at noon. Pig roast dinner will be served from 3 to 6 p.m. Proceeds from the event will support local John Straatsma family.

•    The Salvation Army of Big Rapids has opened a Fresh Start Baby Pantry for families with children under age 5 in Mecosta, Osceola, Lake and Newaygo counties. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information visit sabigrapids.org or call 231-796-5597.

•    The Evart Car Club will host the annual Eight Point Lake Cruise on Friday, Sept. 2.  Riders will assemble on N. Industrial Drive at the airport around 4:30 p.m. Cruise starts at 5 p.m.

•    Jokers M/C Evart will host a Toys for Tots Fun Run on Sept. 3 to benefit Osceola and Lake County Toys for Tots. Registration is from 10:30 to 11:30, with kick stands up at noon. Each stop will include a game, a dart throw or other activity. Cost is $15 per player. 

•    The Evart Fire Department is sponsoring an Emergency Medical Responder Course from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 8 through Nov. 12, with instructor Lowell Brown, BAS, CCEMT-P,I/C. Cost is $500. Deadline for registration is Aug. 19. For more information or to register, contact s.hemler@evartfd.com.

•    The Evart Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturdays, now through October 8. Vendors or food trucks interested in being part of the farmers market email evartfarmmarket@gmail.com or call 231-250-8768.

•    Liberty Baptist Church of Reed City is hosting “Praise in the Park” at 6 p.m. Sunday evenings at the Bandshell at Rambadt Park through September 4. Admission is free and will include a cookout/potluck meal.

•    The Big Rapids Downtown Development Association will host the “Pocket Park Music Series” from noon to 2 p.m., Fridays through Sept. 2, at the Pocket Park in downtown Big Rapids next to Raven Brew and Barbeque. This is a free concert. From more information visit cityofbr.org.

•    Crossroads Community Church, 110 S. Main St., Evart is hosting Celebrate Recovery meetings at 6:30 p.m., every Monday. Find answers with others that are on the same journey. For more information visit cccevart.org. or call 231-734-1100.

•    The Reed City Heritage Museum is open from 1-4 p.m. Friday through Tuesday at 138 W. Slosson Ave., Reed City. Admission is free. Groups are welcome.

•    The Crossroads Quilt Guild meets at 6:30 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene, 5300 220th Ave., Reed City, on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Those interested are welcome to attend without being a member. Any level of quilter is encouraged to attend.

•    The Reed City Food Pantry will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 831 S. Chestnut St., Reed City. Clients may come once each month for 12 months.

•    The Reed City Senior Center at 219 E. Todd Ave., hosts the following events weekly: Wednesdays at noon - Fun Bingo; Thursdays at noon- Euchre; Friday – doors open at 10:30 a.m., Early Bird at 11:30 a.m. and Regular Bingo at noon.
