Walter T. Krakowski, of Lake City, formerly of LeRoy, passed away Friday, July 8, 2011, with his family by his side. He was 86 years old.

He was born in Cedar to Anthony and Anna (Stock) Krakowski on May 26, 1925. Walter married Lorraine Lillian Strandberg on June 12, 1948, in Detroit after 30 years with REA Express as a truck driver and manager, and retired. He then owned and operated, along with his wife, the LeRoy Hardware Store from 1974 to 1980. He also was a volunteer fireman for the town for more than 25 years. Walter was a jack of all trades, from fixing bicycles on Mackinaw Island in the summers, to continuing to work at the Hardware. He and his wife resided in LeRoy for more than 30 years, spending the winters in the Florida. They moved to the Lake City area recently to be closer to their family. Walter enjoyed playing pool, enjoyed fishing very much and was an avid bicycle repairman.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; daughters, Brenda (John) Kendziorski of Lake City, and Glenda (William) Robinson of Clinton Township; eight grandchildren, Eva, Tammy, Shelley, Pete, Shannon, Edrea, John and Aaron; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held Friday, July 22, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Young Funeral Home with a luncheon to follow at the American Legion #300 hall. Memorial tributes may be made to Mercy Hospice. To send a condolence to the family, please visit
