Obituary: Rev. Clair Stratton Thompson
REV. CLAIR STRATTON THOMPSON
MARION — Rev. Clair Stratton Thompson of Marion went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Autumnwood of McBain at the age of 89.
Clair was born in Beaver Falls, Pa., on March 27, 1922, the son of Ervin and Nina (Stratton) Thompson. He was in the United States Marine Corps. during WWII; Clair received a Purple Heart while serving with the Third Marine Division on Guam. He was a member of D.A.V.
After graduating from Moody Bible Institute of Chicago he pastured South Canaan Baptist Church in Ohio, Entrican Bible Church in Entrican and Marion Baptist Church in Marion, where he retired after more than 20 years of service.
Clair was united in marriage to the former Jean Kraft on Nov. 15, 1946 in Massillon, Ohio. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with his family.
Clair is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Jean Thompson; four children, Connie (Robert) Walworth of Evart, Rex (Amy) Thompson of McBain, Karen (Leon) Holmquist of Tustin and Pam (Tim) Dayle of Marion; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Clair was preceded in death by his parents and infant son, Terry Nathan.
Visitation will take place Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 1 p.m. from the Marion Baptist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. Rev. Dennis Williams will be officiating. The Marion VFW Post 6015 will conclude the service with military honors. Those planning a memorial contribution may wish to consider memorials to Marion Baptist Church.
