NELLY W. STRAATHOF HERSEY \u2014 Nelly W. Straathof, 89, of Hersey, passed away at her home on Monday, Feb. 21, 2011. She was born April 4, 1921 in Hoogmade, Netherlands to Cornelis and Cornelia (Hoogeveen) Hillenaar. Nelly married William Straathof on June 18, 1947. In 1953, Nelly and William immigrated to Santa Fe, N.M., with three small children, and later moved to Hersey in 1963 and operated the family dairy farm. Nelly dedicated her life to her family and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Evart. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, in September 1978, and two sisters. Nelly leaves to cherish her memory her children; John (Kenda) Straathof, Corry (Ray) McDowell, Tina (Garol) Erbes, Nelli (Jacob) Koster, Carl (Peggy) Straathof, Rose (Louis) Stieg, William (Connie) Straathof, and Edward (Beth) Straathof; 26 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two step grandchildren, two step great-grandchildren, and also four sisters and one brother, all of whom live in the Netherlands. Services for Nelly were held on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Evart with Rev. Fr. Joe Fix and Rev. Fr. Rock Badgerow officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery, Reed City. Memorials may be made to the Osceola County 4-H youth or Sacred Heart Catholic Church youth programs. Arrangements were entrusted to the McDowell Funeral Home.
