LUTHER — Donald Alfred Lucas, 89, of Luther, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac.
He was born on Dec. 10, 1921, in Atlanta, Mich., and was a resident of Luther most of his life. He was a logger most of his working life and purchased the Twin Creek Inn in 1976, retiring in 1983.
He served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a lifelong member of the VFW and American Legion and a charter member of the Luther Lions Club.
He was married in 1945 to Gladys Draper, who passed away in 1995.
He is survived by his sons, Steven (Christine) of Bryant, Ark., Michael (Shirley) of Portage, Mitchell (Laura) of Sparta, and Scott (Jody) of Luther; his daughter, Cindy Choponis (Brian Hafer) of Luther; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and his sister, Thelma Tuttle of Luther. He was predeceased in death by eight brothers and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Luther Lions Club, with the Rev. Bryan McConnell officiating. Burial will be at North Park Cemetery in Luther.
