EVART — Nancy Lee (Bennett) Burns, 65, of Hicks Lake, near Evart, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Spectrum Health Blodgett Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Nancy was born on May 8, 1948, in Lansing, to Charles Shore Bennett and Elsie Elizabeth (Gibbs) Bennett. She was a 1966 graduate of Lansing Everett High School and attended Michigan State University for two years. Nancy married Gerald E. Burns on January 22, 1971, in Mason. She had worked for Spartan Plastics in Holt and for Dart Container in Mason. She coached for Special Olympics in Holt. Gerald and Nancy moved from Mason to Hicks Lake in 2005.

Nancy’s health in recent years limited her activities.

She said, “It was my legs that didn’t work, nothing wrong with my mouth! It was my attitude that kept me from being bed ridden, my smile and my sense of humor.”

She was a member of the Evart United Methodist Church and enjoyed knitting and word puzzles.

She is survived by Gerald E. Burns, of Evart, along with her brother, Gary (Nancy) Bennett, of Evart; and aunt and uncle, Darlene and Dale Golombisky, of Evart.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Memorial services for Nancy Lee Burns are at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at United Methodist Church in Evart with Pastor Melodye Surgeon-Rider officiating. The family will meet with friends at noon until time of services at the church.
