One Michigan man's friendship paid off big time when it tipped him off a $271,601 payday.

The Bay County man purchased a Fantasy 5 ticket at Larry's Corner Lounge in Pinconning Sept. 7.

“I got a call from my co-worker the day after the drawing asking me if I had bought a ticket at Larry’s,” said the player in a lottery press release. “He told me a jackpot winning ticket had been bought at that store, so I went running to my truck to grab my ticket. I looked my ticket over, and I couldn’t believe I was holding the winner!”

The man, who chose to remain anonymous, visited the lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He told officials he planned to pay bills and save his remaining jackpot earnings.

According to the Michigan Lottery, each Fantasy 5 play is only $1.

"For an additional $1 per play, EZmatch may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a chance to win up to $500 instantly," the release reads. "For an additional $1 per play, Double Play may be added to a Fantasy 5 ticket, giving players a second chance to win up to $110,000 in the nightly Double Play drawing. Fantasy 5 players select five numbers from one to 39. Players who match all five Fantasy 5 numbers drawn win a jackpot that starts at $100,000. Fantasy 5 drawings are held seven days a week at 7:29 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at a retailer or online at MichiganLottery.com until 7:08 p.m. on the day of the drawing."
