IRONS — Michael David Wabindato passed away at his home on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014.

He was born in Muskegon on June 12, 1950, to Francis and Sara (Mendoza) Wabindato. Michael was a tribal member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians and The Warrior Society (Native American Veterans). He attended Reed City High School, Ferris State University and then entered the military where he was proud to serve in the U.S. Army and on the Special Forces Recon in Alaska; he was then in the National Guard for two additional years. Michael has lived in Lake County for the past 18 years and was a member of the VFW and the AMVETS.

Michael is survived by his companion of 18 years, Carolyn Hall; one daughter, Carrie Harley, of Ludington; one son, Justin Wabindato; three grandchildren; his brother, Marty W. Wabindato; and his sister, Christine Buschlor.

Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Frank W. Wabindato; his foster brother, Donald Cooper; and his foster parents, Edna and William Oakes.

Services for Michael are as follows: the family will receive visitors from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at Verdun Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, also at the funeral home. Interment and a military graveside service will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Reed City.
