Manfred Salinas

REED CITY — Manfred “Al” Salinas, 91, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Spectrum Health Reed City Skilled Nursing.

Al was born in Yorktown, Texas, to Pedro and Erminia (Martinez) Salinas. He moved to Michigan from Texas with his parents, brothers and sisters when he was a child. He was the oldest of 10 siblings. He was a World War II Army veteran who served in Japan.

Al married Betty Hooker in Evart on Aug. 12, 1978. He had worked various jobs and retired from Evart Products in 1987. He attended the Evart Free Methodist Church. Al was a kind spirit who was fond of animals and he enjoyed reading, getting the mail at the post office and sitting outdoors.

Manfred is survived by his wife, Betty Salinas, of Evart; step-daughters, Julie (Steve) Miller, of Sears, and Nancy (Phil) Fowler, of Diamondale; step-son, Timothy Hooker, of Grand Rapids; granddaughter, Sara Cichewicz, of Grand Rapids; sisters, Elida Connor, of Corunna, and Guadalupe Morgan, of Evart; brothers, Rudy (Faye) Salinas, of Sears, Roy Salinas, of Grand Rapids, Pete Salinas, of Sears, and Andy (Doris) Salinas, of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ethel; two brothers, Romeo and Horace Salinas; and a sister, Maria Pylman.

A funeral service for Manfred “Al” Salinas is at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at the Corey Funeral Home, in Evart, with Father Joe Fix officiating. Visitation will be at 1:30 p.m. until time of services on Friday. Internment will be in the spring at Forest Hill Cemetery in Evart.
