REED CITY — Lester L. Knapp, 90, of Reed City, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017.
He was born March 31, 1927, to Eathel and Elsie (Manzer) Knapp in Osceola County, where he was raised. After serving in the Armed Forces for two years, and the Emergency Reserve Corps for five years, Lester was employed by Gardner Denver in Reed City for 34 years as set-up man in tool fabrication. He had a strong work ethic. With a full-time job, he built two homes, three vacation cottages and helped others with home building.
Lester loved trees — planting them, making lumber from them and doing beautiful woodwork. He was always available to help others. Lester was predeceased by his wife, Vera (Parmelee) Knapp, with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage, and by son, Randal Knapp.
He is survived by two children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: son, Rick (Robin) Knapp, of Hersey, and their children, Cameron and Sydney; daughter, Kimberly (Steve) Williams, of Downingtown, Pa., and their children, Ashley, Nathan and Kaleb; and by his granddaughter, Nicole (Knapp) Sims, of Hersey, and her three children, Liam, Aria and Alba.
Lester also is survived by his sister, Lucille Mallory, and brothers, Sylvester and William (Gay) Knapp. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 17, 2017, at the Ashton United Methodist Church with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice and/or the Ashton United Methodist Church.
Arrangements were entrusted to the McDowell Funeral Home.
