Keith A. Bailey
BIG RAPIDS — Keith A. Bailey, 60, of Big Rapids, formerly of Reed City, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on July 6, 1954, in Lansing, the son of Harvey W. and Wave I (Houseman) Bailey.
Keith attended Reed City High School and joined the U.S. Army in 1971. He proudly served his country for 21 years, retiring from the military in 1992 as a Sergeant E-5.
His service included many different jobs, with his favorite being a Drill Sergeant and Purchasing Agent. He also served in Desert Storm and traveled throughout 38 different countries.
Following his career in the military, Keith was a long-haul truck driver. His travels took him through every state in the country.
Keith enjoyed hunting, golfing with his brother, Gary, and friends, and spending time with his granddaughters.
Keith is survived by his wife, Darla; two sons, Keith Bailey and Michael Bailey; four daughters, Elizabeth Bailey, Rebecca Szpiech (Jeremiah) McNeilly, Nicole (Dan) McClellan and Kylie Szpiech; plus three very special granddaughters, Ashlynn, Kendall and Abbi; plus three grandsons. Also surviving are three brothers, Harvey (Sue) Bailey, Chuck (Shelia) Bailey and Gary (Gail) Bailey; plus several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Connie Ames and Sandy Nordquist.
A memorial gathering for Keith was held on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Reed City United Methodist Church.
