REED CITY — John William McLachlan, 82, of Reed City, passed away on Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at Lakeview Lutheran Manor in Cadillac.

He was born in Evart on Dec. 30, 1932, to Dan William and Laura Theresa (Elder) McLachlan. He married Joanne Marie Schlaf on March 19, 1955, at St. Clement’s Catholic Church at Centerline. He was a heavy equipment operator in the logging and construction industry. He had worked for Timber Products and retired in 1988. He graduated from Evart High School and enjoyed ice fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Reed City; and seven children, Theodore (Doris) McLachlan, of Croswell, James Arnold McLachlan, of Lancaster, Pa., Daniel Elmer McLachlan, of Long Beach, Miss., Jaqueline Marie (David) Bridges, of Edwardsburg, Edward Alan McLachlan, of Edwardsburg, Mary Ann Martin, of Lancaster, Pa. and Kenneth Wayne (Alley Frances) McLachlan, of Munising. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Siblings surviving are Lawrence (Dorothy) McLachlan, of Swartz Creek, Velma Wirth, of Big Rapids, Marjorie Pratt, of lower Michigan, Gerald McLachlan, of Flint, Katherine Lauletta, of Florida and Evelyn Antrup, of Evart. In-laws include Carole McLachlan, of Evart, Verda McLachlan, Bob (Audrey) Schlaf, of Dryden, Don (Rosie) Schlaf, Joe Schlaf, of Kalkaska, Marilyn Richardson, of Lockland, Nev., Rosemary McKinney, of Lockland, Nev. and Carol (Bob) Rhadidae, of St. Augustine, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a son, Neil William McLachlan; brothers, Herman, Dale and Donald Wayne McLachlan; and in-laws, Donna and Lyle McKinsery.
