John Sidney Roberts

On Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, heaven celebrated the arrival of a handsome new sailor, John Sidney Roberts, Sr., 69.

He was welcomed with open arms by his mother, Leyvonne Roberts; daughter, Sandra Olson; daughter-in-law, Shelly Roberts; sister-in-law, Patricia Phelps; and brother-in-law, Steve Grey.

God was merciful, and ended his suffering, for which his family is thankful. John will be sorely missed by his father, Sidney Roberts; brothers, Fred, Bruce and Kirk; sister, Pam (Roberts) Reedy; and their families. He also is survived by his in-laws, Shirley and Ed Colbert.

He was loved immensely by his bride of nearly 50 years, Mary Lou Roberts. John was the wonderful father to four sons, John Jr., Michael, Christopher and Jason; as well as son-in-law, Steve Olson. John was blessed with 23 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

John served his country with honor as a member of the U.S. Navy, demonstrated a tireless work ethic in many jobs, including service on the Baltimore City Police Department, R&R Oil Well Service and CareLink. When not working, he could be found challenging his sons and friends to poker, fishing and eating his fair share of pickled bologna.

His family, friends and co-workers will miss him endlessly and only take comfort in knowing that this isn’t goodbye, but so long for now, until we see you again. A celebration of his life and luncheon will be held at 2 p.m. on on March 16, 2013, at Lincoln Township Hall in Ashton.
