Joe Brackett

EVART — Joe Brackett, 89, of Evart, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Curry House near Cadillac.

Joe was born on Nov. 23, 1926, in Evart, to Bruce and Lottie (Cooper) Brackett. He graduated from Evart High School in 1943. Joe was a proud U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Delores A. Line on Aug.12, 1950, in Evart. Joe worked at Evart Products, retiring in 1982.

He was a member of AMVETS Post No. 11 in Evart. Joe loved being around his family, enjoyed walking and riding his bicycle, was a voracious reader and had not missed an opening day of deer season until this last year.

Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Delores A. Brackett, of Evart; daughter Joleen (Kenneth) Kraft, of Sears; three grandchildren, Devin (Holly) Simon, of Seattle, Wash., Ashley Kraft, of Sears, and Alicia (Eric) Hasse, of Pinconning; one great-grandchild, Luke Simon, of Seattle, Wash.; a sister, Avis Thompson, of Hersey; two brothers, William Bracket, of Flint, and Delmar (Kathy) Brackett, of Grand Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Valerie and Dianne; and four brothers, Francis, Robert, Dave and Orris.

Funeral services for Joe Brackett will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart, with Pastor Rob Rounds officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services on Saturday. Military Rites will be executed by VFW Post No. 7979 of Evart and AMVETS Post No. 11 of Evart. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in the spring.
