REED CITY —  Jeanne Arline (Round) Watz, 84, of Reed City, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Jeanne was born on Oct. 18, 1929, in Syracuse, N.Y., to Frank and Leota (Henderson) Round. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at Michigan College of Mining and Technology (Michigan Tech) and her masters in education from Western Michigan University. She married Glen Watz on March 17, 1951. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2000.

She was an avid hunter and fisherman, and loved her farm. She was raised in the area, returned in 1980 and stayed for the remainder of her life. Jeanne worked for a time as a mechanical engineer and later as a math teacher. She was a devoted member of the Big Rapids congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Mary Ness; grandsons, Matthew Shutes and Erik Bassett; and her brother, Jack (Lucille) Round.

In addition to her husband, Glen; and her parents, Frank and Leota Round; her brother, Jerry, preceded her in death.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to her devoted friend, Peggy Lafferty, for her friendship and caring during her illness.

A memorial service for Jeanne will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at McDowell Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
