EVART — James Richard Borden, 75, of Evart, died on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids after a 40-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis.

He was born to James Owen and Florence (Comstock) Borden on May 25, 1939, at their home in Evart. He graduated from Evart High School in 1957. He joined the U.S. Air Force and worked for Buick in Flint until his health forced him to retire. Jim, aka “Sonny,” aka “JB,” enjoyed fishing and hunting, shooting pool, playing chess and cards, and loved playing golf. When his illness diminished his physical activities, he enjoyed watching sports while smoking a cigar.

Jim is survived by his ex-wife and devoted caregiver, Maryann (Oade) Borden, of Evart; their two children, Rhonda (David) Huff, of Evart, and Randall (Andrea) Borden, of Farmington; six grandchildren, Alysia and Abbey Huff, Andrea (Jacob) Wirth, Dillon, Casey and Grant Borden; and great-grandson, Ezra Wirth; one sister, Kay (Sterling) McLachlan; his many loved nieces and nephews that he enjoyed; and a trusted and special caregiver, Sharon Heberling, that allowed him to live at home his way.

In addition to his parents, Jim and Florence, he was preceded in death by a sister, Nina Borden; a beloved brother and sister-in-law, Duane and Maria Borden; and nephew, Jimmy Borden.

Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service will be held.
