EVART — James Allen McKay, 77, of Evart passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at his home in Evart Township.

He was born Aug. 10, 1934, in Owosso Township, Shiawasse County, to Walter and Ethel (Rowe) McKay, and attended Ovid-Elsie Schools. He was married on June 21, 1958, in Evart to Bonnie L. Booher, who survives. He lived in Owosso, Evart and the Gladwin area, where he farmed and was a truck driver for Liberty Dairy, along with various other jobs. He attended the South Evart Free Methodist Church and was a member of the Evart JayCees. He served on the Evart Fire Department, was a Boy Scout leader and Little League coach. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He enjoyed bear and deer hunting.

He leaves behind his wife, Bonnie L. McKay, of Evart; children, Brenda Lee McKay, of Barryton, James Michael McKay and Stephen William McKay, both of Evart, Susan Ronoe (Jeff) Lyon, of Sears and Michael Allen McKay, of Baldwin; two sisters, Lorraine (Robert) Buchele, of Florida and Charlotte Kurty, of Niles; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris Buysee; and brother, Wayne McKay.

A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 10 at South Evart Free Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the South Evart Free Methodist Church.
