REED CITY — Jack R. Thirey, 87, of Reed City, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Spectrum Health Reed City Campus.
Jack was born on Dec. 17, 1925, in Detroit to Raymond R. and Charlotte (Leach) Thirey. He was a proud Navy Seabee veteran of World War II and was a Life Member of VFW Post No. 2964 of Reed City. Jack enjoyed all aspects of aviation and received his pilots license after WWII. Jack married Marjorie Johnson on Dec. 28, 1979, in Cedar Township. He was a long haul truck driver for 32 and a half years, worked 10 years at Tubelite and retired in 1991. He had also worked for the city of Reed City. Jack had been an Osceola County resident since 1975 and was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Reed City.
Jack is survived by his wife, Marjorie Thirey, of Reed City; daughter, Debra (Charles) Brombaugh, of Ocean City, Fla.; step-daughter, Roberta (Jim) Rice, of Cadillac; two step-sons, William W. Johnson, of Centerville, and David A. Johnson, of Reed City; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Dallas Thirey, of Ariz.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Dennis Thirey.
Funeral services for Jack R. Thirey are at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at Hersey United Methodist Church, with Pastor Lem Granada officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the church. Internment will be in the Hersey Village Cemetery with military rites performed by VFW Post No. 2964 of Reed City.
