Geraldine E. Sturdavant

LEROY — Geraldine E. Sturdavant, 94, of LeRoy, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, at Spectrum Health Reed City Hospital.

She was born on July 5, 1919, to Eugene and Clara (Peterson) Madole, in the same home in LeRoy Township where she lived until her hospitalization. Geraldine attended LeRoy schools, graduating from LeRoy High School in 1937. She attended Michigan State University and later Central Michigan University for her teaching degree. She taught in several one-room country schools and later at LeRoy Elementary School for a total of 40 years.

She married Stanley Sturdavant on May 17, 1944. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2001.

Geraldine was a member of LeRoy United Methodist Church and the LeRoy Historical Society. She enjoyed playing piano, sewing and playing in the Kitchen Band.

Surviving is one daughter, Carelin Lintemuth, of Rodney; three sons, Bruce (Janet) Sturdavant, Dean (Cindy) Sturdavant and Eugene Sturdavant, all of LeRoy; nine grandchildren, William Lintemuth, Lawrence (Ann) Lintemuth, Lisa (Todd) Bowman, Raeann (Guy) Wagner, Lori Nix, Deanna Sturdavant, Daniel (Emily) Sturdavant, Jennifer (Steve) Duncan and Eugene Sturdavant; and 12 great-grandchildren, Paige, Payton, Zackaurrie, Josselynn, Havannah, Taylor, Trent, Tyler, Elyonna, Sarina, Sydney and Seth.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct., 17, 2013, at the LeRoy United Methodist Church with the Rev. Scott Loomis officiating. Burial will be in LeRoy Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013, at McDowell Funeral Home and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be made to the LeRoy Historical Society.
