Gerald D. McCallum

EVART — Beloved by many, Gerald D. McCallum passed away on Monday, July 29, 2013, at his home in Evart.

After graduating from Waterford Township High School in 1959, Gerald worked for Interlakes Steel Company until his retirement, when he and his wife moved to tranquil Evart.

He enjoyed tinkering with his antique tractors and caring for his yard and gardens. He was a devout member of the Masons and St. Paul Lutheran Church. He also did volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity.

He was well known in the community for his loving, caring nature and mischievous sense of humor. He also will be remembered by all the children that rode on either his Evart school bus or Spring Hill Camp bus.

He is survived by his wife, Karren (Cummings), of 52 years; and five children, Jon (Buddha) Parlette, of White Lake, Chris McCallum, of Colorado Springs, Carmen (David) Calkin, of Ypsilanti, Gerry (Theresa) McCallum, of White Lake, and Garry (Laurie) McCallum, of Goodrich.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Donna Lou (William) Saunders, of Cheboygan.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Robert McCallum, of Waterford.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, Aug. 3 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Evart. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Michigan Masonic Charitable Foundation, located at 1200 Wright Ave., Alma, MI 48801-1133 or St. Paul Lutheran Church of Evart.
