MECOSTA, OSCEOLA COUNTIES — Gas prices have once again shot up in Mecosta and Osceola counties, rising over 30 cents in some areas and even topping $4.40 for a gallon of regular unleaded at some stations.

As of Tuesday at 1 p.m. prices averaged above $4.15.

According to an article released by AAA, this is not yet due to the hurricane that is set to hit Florida, but instead due to refinery issues across the midwest, including a fire at an oil refinery in Ohio that killed two people.

Regionally, gas prices have rose significantly in the Grand Rapids/Muskegon/Holland region according to AAA, rising 45 cents from an average $3.661 to $4.115. Michigan as a state sit 38 cents above the national average of $3.747.
