Fernand J. "Frenchy" Deschamps

HICKS LAKE — Fernand J. "Frenchy" Deschamps, 80, of Hicks Lake near Evart, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2015, at Autumnwood of McBain.

Fernand was born on Nov. 15, 1934, in Field, Ontario, Canada, to David and Noella (St. Jean) Deschamps. As a young man, Frenchy was an avid outdoorsman who worked as a hunting and fishing guide in Canada. He also was a cook in a logging camp of 80 men where he honed his skills and became an excellent cook. Frenchy married Patricia Marie Yoakam in Livonia on March 5, 1981. He worked for Spartan Foods for 33 years and retired in June of 1991. Fernand was past governor and administrator of the Evart Moose Lodge.

Frenchy is survived by his wife, Patricia M. Deschamps, of Evart; two daughters, Marie (Kurt) Treusch, of Texas and Yvonne (John) Phillips, of Garden City; five grandchildren, Derek Johnson, Joseph Daly, Jack Phillips, Ben Phillips and Allen Phillips; one great-grandchild; three sisters, Yvette (Don) Nault, of Windsor, Ontario, Pauline (Leo) Laroque, of Val Therese, Ontario and Jeanne (Yves) Rivest, of Field, Ontario; four brothers, Eddie (Terry) Deschamps, of Windsor, Ontario, Cyril (Dianne) Deschamps, of Azilda, Ontario, John (Darlene) Deschamps, of Brandon, Manitoba and Rheo Deschamps, of Sudbury, Ontario.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three infant sons.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 17, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Evart, with Father Joe Fix officiating. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Corey Funeral Home in Evart.
