Evart Farmers Market opens for the summer

A variety of vendors arrived to sell their products

EVART — Evart Farmers Market has opened for the season.

Several vendors showed off their homemade products on opening day. Businesses sold farm-fresh meats, locally grown veggies, homemade pies, glasswork, flowers, and even hand-woven rugs.

"The whole concept behind this is to make good food from scratch for people. Not using a bunch of chemical-type products, not using anything with a bunch of preservatives, just good home cooking food from scratch," said Robin Hartoon, from G Farms, who makes desserts in jars, including chocolate cake and apple crisp, homemade jellies, pies, and what she calls "hand pies." The hand pies were created to solve the issue of kids snacking outside and making a mess with normal pie slices.

The Evart Farmers Market opened for the season June 11, featuring a variety of homemade products. "The whole concept behind this is to make good food from scratch for people," said Robin Hartoon from G Farms.

The market opened June 11 and concludes on the second Saturday of October. The market is at the Evart Depot, 200 South Main St., Evart, next to the Pere Marquette Rails to Trails.
