Ethel Irene McCourt, 101, of Reed City, passed away on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, in Cadillac.

She was born on April 25, 1911, to John Erler and Martha Haist, in Richmond Township and attended Reed City area schools.

In 1956, she was employed with Ferris State University as a receptionist, where she worked for 17 years until her retirement in 1973. Ethel was the last living charter member of the Reed City Church of the Nazarene and was active in its spiritual life, recently serving as a greeter at age 100.

She was a longtime member of RSVP (Retired & Senior Volunteer Program) Senior Corps in the Reed City area that allowed her many opportunities to volunteer in the community helping with county elections, tutoring students, and serving dinners to local residents.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth (Kay) McCourt, of Prescott, Ariz.; daughters, June (Larry) Andres, of Traverse City, and Jeanette Hays, of Hersey; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Martha Erler; and her sisters, Mable Parsell, Beulah Dixon, Helen Benzing and Eleanor Daniels.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at the Reed City Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Chris DeMott officiating. Burial will be at the Woodland Cemetery in Reed City.

A memorial contribution may be made in her name to either the Church of the Nazarene or to Hospice of Michigan and envelopes will be available during visitation hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at the Pruitt-Livingston Funeral Home in Reed City.
