Elizabeth A. Stafford
REED CITY – Elizabeth A. Stafford, 77, of Reed City, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at her home.
She was born on July 2, 1934, in Hawkins, to Clarence and Helen (Thomas) Youngs. She attended Reed City schools, graduating from Reed City High School in 1952.
Elizabeth married Thomas Stafford in October 1953. She had worked at the Mackinaw Trail and Nestle Inn restaurants, then 44 years at the Osceola County Court House and the last 25 years as county treasurer, retiring in 1997. She had worked with 4-H and enjoyed gardening, quilting and reading.
Surviving are her two children, Brenda (Robert) Schoenlein, of St. Henry, Ohio, and Jeff Stafford, of Reed City; two grandchildren, Angela (Dennis) Vendl and Nicole (Blake) Young; one great-granddaughter, Lilly Rose Vendl; two sisters, Mabel (Robert) Scheid, of Big Rapids, and Mary Youngs, of Reed City; four brothers, Clifford (Jackie) Youngs, of Reed City, and Lloyd Youngs, Bud (Karen) Youngs and Clarence Youngs, Jr., all of Hawkins; and three brothers-in-law, John Woods, Bill Johnson and Jay (Carol) Stafford, of Canadian Lakes.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by two sisters, Beulah Woods and Minnie Johnson; and sister- and brother-in-law, Nona and Gilbert Swiger.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at Reed City V.F.W. Post No. 2964. Committal services will be held in the spring at Chase Township Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Osceola County 4-H. Arrangements were entrusted to the McDowell Funeral Home.
